Vaginal Laxity and the associated Problems

What is Vaginal Laxity and What problems it can cause?

Vaginal Laxity means a certain “Looseness of the vagina”, which means the normal dimensions of the vagina increase. A loose vagina is felt by many women . Looseness of the vagina can develop due to multiples of reasons.
Reasons can be varied. To name a few:-
  •         Multiple vaginal deliveries
  •         Delivering a big sized baby
  •         Vaginal delivery with instruments like a forceps delivery
  •         Normal Aging
  •         Menopause
  •         Uterus Prolapse
  •         Early Sexual exposure

Vaginal laxity can lead to many problems. A loose vagina can present as an uncomfortable sensation felt by many women. During sexual intercourse due to the lax vagina, a woman may feel fewer sensations. Due to this sex may become less pleasurable for both the woman and her partner. This may ultimately lead to relationship problems.

Urinary problems may also arise due to vaginal laxity. The frequency of urination and involuntary passage of urine may occur. Due to urine incontinence,  women may complain of persistent vaginal discharge.

Due to lack of awareness and social taboos, women sometimes don’t realize that the problems they are facing are quite common and have genuine treatments available. Women should not be reluctant to discuss their problems with a trusted doctor, a gynecologist.
